Dancing with Technology

The Journey of my Artwork from CMAC to Jeffrey’s Home”

Inspiration from Bluechips Microhouse: A Fusion of Art and Technology

It all began with an enlightening field trip to Bluechips Microhouse during the Chiang Mai Art Connect (CMAC) workshop. As we toured through the immaculate clean room of microchip production, I was captivated by the fascinating world where computers were literally producing computers. The baking ovens, solder robots, and x-ray machines, all meticulously managed by a handful of human overseers, painted a picture of precision and innovation.

The Artistic Retreat Amidst Nature

Post our tour, we retreated to the company’s eatery and conference building, nestled in the stunning landscape of Northern Thailand. The mountains and the lush greenery of the tropics formed a serene backdrop, contrasting yet complementing the high-tech environment we had just experienced.

A Workshop of Reflection and Creation

Here, under the guidance of Sabine Zimpfer, we embarked on a workshop that was reflective and transformative. Joined by 30 artists and company employees, we delved into our experiences of the pandemic, channeling our emotions into vibrant colors painted on small canvases. It was a cathartic experience, one that bridged our inner feelings with outer expressions.

The Birth of a Techno-Artistic Piece

The following day, a box of electronic parts at the workshop space caught my eye. Armed with a canvas, I began a journey of merging paint with technology. I meticulously attached electronic components and an Arduino microcontroller equipped with a microwave sensor and a 60-LED strip. My vision was to create an artwork that not only felt the presence of its observer but also invited them into a dance of lights and colors.

The Artwork Finds a New Home

Days after the workshop, as I was preparing to return to Austria, I encountered Jeffrey in the museum. He was one of the observers who had interactively engaged with my artwork. Our conversation, brief yet meaningful, revealed his deep connection with the piece. To my delight, Jeffrey decided to give my artwork a new home in his modern, concrete-walled house – a setting that seemed almost designed for it.

A Heartfelt Thank You

I extend my heartfelt thanks to Jeffrey, not only for embracing my art but also for supporting the next CMAC. It’s heartwarming to know that my artwork has found a place where it can continue to ‘dance’ and be appreciated in its full technological and artistic splendor.

This experience, from the inspirational tour at Bluechips Microhouse to the final placement of my artwork in Jeffrey’s home, encapsulates the essence of CMAC – a celebration of art, technology, and human connection.
