This blog post is part of the Random Sampling Singapore project. The Project aims to sample 100 places on the island of Singapore over a one year (+) period in order to gain an unbiased and holistic view of the city state.
I was dazzled when my representing gallery ARTPORTERS was inviting me to exhibit at S.E.A. Focus 2023. This leading contemporary art exhibition is not only a great opportunity to reach out to a broad audience – it also has exactly a topic this year which allows me to introduce my project “Random Sampling Singapore”:

For me as an artist this theme is an invite to give direction through art after a time of crisis, as the pandemic 😷.
The pandemic or every crisis in life shows how much we rely on resilience – as individuals, as society or nations. The best way to build up resilience is to know yourself. To know your own culture, to know your own bias and to know how your own individual code works.
If we can gain the precious knowledge of what we are built of and how our inner code influences our decisions and directs us to certain pathways, we are able to balance out bias and steer to a better world anew. And I think art can do exactly that job.
A couple of weeks ago the Gallery and S.E.A. Focus called again with the idea to produce a video about 2 emerging artists and their art practice. I was dazzled again to hear that I am one of them, next to Keith Teo, who is an artwork himself! I am very much excited to see his wonderful paintings in the exhibition. Awesome!
During the kick-off call with PrettyMuch Films I asked my usual question to the film team:
“Do you want to come along to one of the coordinates?”

I don’t want to post pictures as usual to this blog post to let room for this amazing video PrettyMuch Films made. See it for yourself!
I want to thank Alvin, Thomas and Stephen for the fun day we had to walk all up to the highest mountain of Singapore to coordinate 46 at Bukit Timah Nature Reservoir. I think they did a great job to get the gist out of my project and merge it to the ideas of Keith and the S.E.A. exhibition.
