This blog post is part of the Random Sampling Singapore project. The Project aims to sample 100 places on the island of Singapore over a one (+) year period in order to gain an unbiased and holistic view of the city state.
On a nice Sunday afternoon in July 2022 we met with my favorite Data Scientist Jane. Next to coordinate #99_许愿山 , #25_Spirit and #81Keep Calm and Love Penguins – this is her 4th coordinate we are sampling together.
This project has generating many data since our first coordinate almost a year ago. We spoke about how we could process this data. During pouncing ideas and walking on the beach we sampled the area. The coordinate was on the other side of the river outlet, a wall made of stones and concrete. On the horizon a ship with a gigantic G was standing out. A ship from the Data Giant Google was docking on the east coast of Singapore. They are building more infrastructure for them google cloud service.

Jane captured her impressions in a What’sApp on her way back home:

When we were standing on the river wall looking at the google ship in our coordinates direction, Sven was googling to find out more about this ships. He found that map in an article about the expansion of the submarine infrastructure.

This inspired me to do another beading map. But not the the one from Google, I keep this project for later when I am back in Europe and my center is again, like in the map, Europe.
I had already another map in mind. One that is as well very influential:

And I started beading the Silk Road initiative:
